I'm going to start this review with a sort of disclaimer, and that is that a lot of my "problems" with this film are arguably just artistic nuances that don't align with my personal tastes. Gohatto is a romantic tale of love between samurai warriors, and given the fact that Oshima, 68, has said of himself "I break taboos, and I'm interested in people and actors who break taboos", this samurai film is unlike anything that has ever proceeded it.
